Gone for awhile

So I'm flying to San Francisco tomorrow morning for the weekend. Just found out my mother-in-law has a malignant brain tumor, so we're trying to get up there for her surgery.

See you guys when I see ya. Prayer would be appreciated, or whatever Rev would do in this situation. ;)

Rev would make a sexual joke about your mother-in-law. Anyway, it doesn't matter since I don't accept your request for a leave-of-absence. I'm sorry, but the boards are just too slow and we can't afford to have a top-contributor like you taking any time off right now.

I'll be sure to sacrifice a rabbit as well as a giraffe to ensure the success of your mother-in-law's surgery.

I wish that I could just "thumbs up" this comment.

Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it.

About the size of a tennis ball on her right brain. Putting a lot of pressure on the brain and causing problems.

Im sorry to hear this.

Let me not exist for a fair desire sweet and fresh.

So they let her out of the hospital for the holidays and we are down in Monterey for the fourth. Stopped in Palo Alto and ate at the Zao Noodle Bar.

Surgery is scheduled on Monday. They're gonna take out as much of the tumor as possible (it's replacing her right temporal lobe) and then make a vaccine out of it specific for her. It's part of a clinical trial they have going on at UCSF.

Anyways, what's up with you people?

Damn Asians, stealing the name of Zao.

Hope the surgery goes well. Those are scary.

Well I'm back so I can post in more than just this thread. Had to leave early because of class and work. My wife is staying in San Francisco to be with her mom. Her surgery's tomorrow and they're going to wake up during it to map her motor skills. Fun.

I'll bet your wife is stressed as hell. Hope all goes well. And if they remove the thing, I hope they fashion it into a regulation tennis ball.

Update on my mother-in-law:

She had her surgery on Monday. It was about 5 hours long and the neurosurgeon's words were that he removed an "impressive" amount of the tumor. They expected some left-side paralysis since it's her right brain, but she's being discharged today with no neurological complications. Just some trouble eating with the left-side of her mouth, but other than that she's fine. 65 staples, no swelling, and they didn't even have to cut her hair (something she was worried about all last week).

So now it's just a waiting game for chemo, radiation, and this clinical trial.

The only thing now, the surgeon says, is that it's just that no one knows how much longer she has. She could go downhill in a week or in a year.

Great news for the success of the surgery. It seems to be a temporary sigh of relief for the family huh?
