Gil Scott-Heron

Gil Scott-Heron is releasing a new album in a few days, I don't know how many of you know about him but this guy is an extreme badass.

He's a legend in my eyes and one of my idol's.

Probably most know for his spoken word piece “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," this guy in my opinion was just as important as MLK.

His last album was released 16 years ago.

Here is a good site that has a small bio on him and stuff.

His spoken word is amazing and so far his new album is amazing.

You can listen to the whole thing on his site now.

Man this has literally made my year.

The patience we have shown no others can fare. Our story is the one only few can compare. We will both exchange a smile, when we tell the kids our trials. This is what we have inspired. No matter what our fate I will always be yours. On those days I turned away, you were always my world. Wait for the time when, we're right, I can feel it inside. My God we've waited so long. This time we took, we'll go far...

Oh yeah, he recorded this during his last prison stint at Riker.

Christ, I'm giddy.

Oh yeah him, I saw him on the corner of a busy intersection today in Vegas. He looked hungry.

JK, seriously, I never have been able to get into spoken word.

fykusfireScrybe is what I would deem a genius. Of course with that said, there is a fine line between genius and insanity, and Scrybe is eating that line like spaghetti.

Let me not exist for a fair desire sweet and fresh.

Not funny, Ray. It's not pure spoken word, it has some really awesome music with it. Watch the damn video.

Quote:I’m New Here presents autobiographical, spoken word interludes against fully developed songs (which Gil’s voice handles with more character than inherent talent), and word jazz. The skeletal arrangements and minimalist electronica is a perfect backdrop for his prose and the subject matter is compelling enough for repeated listens. In short, I’m New Here is a perfect introduction for anyone wanting to learn more about the grandfather of political rap and one of word jazz’s most notable artists.
