Fallout 3: New Vegas

not an expansion but a whole new game being made by the guys who worked on the original Fallout IPO.

Quote:The new game will be called Fallout: New Vegas and is currently in development at Obsidian Entertainment. As the title implies, the game will move from the Capital Wasteland of Fallout 3 to a post-apocalyptic version of Las Vegas. While no details—aside from the new setting and developer—have been revealed, Bethesda's VP of PR Pete Hines did explain that the game is neither a direct sequel, nor a spin-off like Fallout Tactics or the ill-fated console exclusive Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Obsidian has experience working on sequels to popular role-playing games, having developed both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2. Both of those games were sequels to titles originally developed by BioWare. The studio also features much of the talent from Black Isle Studios, the team behind the first two entries in the Fallout franchise.

An exact release date has not been announced at this time, but Fallout: New Vegas is expected to be released sometime next year for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

The patience we have shown no others can fare. Our story is the one only few can compare. We will both exchange a smile, when we tell the kids our trials. This is what we have inspired. No matter what our fate I will always be yours. On those days I turned away, you were always my world. Wait for the time when, we're right, I can feel it inside. My God we've waited so long. This time we took, we'll go far...

Ya, if Black Isle people are involved then I'm already way more excited about this than I was about Fallout 3 or the DLC content.

I still haven't played the DLC but I probably will when I get home. If the casino hi-rises are off limits then this game will tank for me. simple as that, LV is smaller than DC area and therefore should explore altitude.

Yes. The first two games were much more clever (and more offensive) and funny than the new one.
I loved the realtime combat though. I know the original guys are RPG purists and not big fans of realtime, they only begrudgingly agreed to feature it when they first started planning FO3.
Also, New Reno was the best city in FO2. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Vegas.

Begrudgingly? All sites are reporting they jumped on board IMMEDIATELY and a deal was reached super fast. This is a golden ticket for a group of has beens who can rise to the top again with a new version of an IPO they created that wound up in better hands. Isometric games days are numbered, even Blizzard had to update Diablo 3 to a hybrid.

I won't say Fallout 3 is perfect, but it is damn good. However, many of the fans of the first two weren't as impressed as the people who started with the 3rd one and never played the first two. I understand that completely.

Speaking of Fallout, PS3 owners will be happy to know that all the DLC is now coming to their systems as well. They will be spread out over the next few months. 360 and PC users will get two new DLC episodes to play with in the meantime, which will come out for PS3 after the first 3 do. Pretty cool for you PS3 users. Now if only they'd bring MGS4 to 360.

D'oh! I bought the PC version because I don't have a 360 and wanted the option of having the DLC some day. Still haven't played it since I'm waiting to get a better computer first.

Ya, the PC has all three DLC episodes available right now and will be getting the next two at the same time as the 360, which is again, before the PS3 will get it.

Yeah, but by the time I can actually play FO3, all the DLC will be in a cheaper bundle pack for less than I paid for just the main game. Probably. I bought the lunchbox super deluxe edition from a coworker for 40 bucks, so maybe it'll even out.

Well, I luckily downloaded the game when it first came out to try it out and once you get out of the Fallout shelter and out into the world.. the game would continuously lock up and crash.

I googled the problem and it was happening to everyone with my same 8800gtx card.

adjooh i have the gtx version, i don't know the difference.
Your card's specs Ansley:
Chipset:
Chipset Manufacturer NVIDIA
GPU GeForce 8800 GTX
Core Clock 575MHz
Stream Processors 128
Memory:
Memory Clock 1800MHz(effective)
Memory Size 768MB
Memory Interface 384-bit
Memory Type GDDR3
General:
RAMDAC 400 MHz
Max Resolution 2560 x 1600

Mine and Tyler's:
Chipset:
Chipset Manufacturer NVIDIA
GPU GeForce 8800 GS
Core Clock 580MHz
Stream Processors 96
Memory:
Memory Clock 1400MHz
Memory Size 384MB
Memory Interface 192-bit
Memory Type GDDR3
General:
RAMDAC 400 MHz
Max Resolution 2560 x 1600

However, these GS and GTX specs are for a stock card. For myself, I run the XFX Alpha Dog version, and that has a core clock speed of 680MHz and a memory clock of 1.6GHz. So in SLI, my numbers are:

Chipset:
Chipset Manufacturer NVIDIA
GPU GeForce 8800 GS
Core Clock 1.36GHz (680MHz x2)
Stream Processors 192 (96 x2)
Memory:
Memory Clock 3.2GHz (1600MHz x2)
Memory Size 768MB
Memory Interface 384-bit (192-bit x2)
Memory Type GDDR3
General:
RAMDAC 800 MHz (400 MHz x2)
Max Resolution 2560 x 1600

This can also vary for you two as well depending on your models.

For its time, yes. The newer batch of ATI and Nvidia cards make it look like dog food unfortunately. If you are playing on a XP box though, it is fine for quite a long time. In Vista or 7 in DX10 (which does not apply to Fallout as it is a DX9 game only), you would begin to notice lag on a lot of games if you crank them too high.

The industry standard card for Nvidia is the 8800/9800 series though (even the newer GTS 250 is just a 9800GTX+), so you could pretty much play any newer game on it as long as you don't set the settings too high.

Heh.

When I bought it, it was one of the top cards to choose from, and it was like.. $350.00 (which is why I didn't sli it).

Then a year later there's already six cards out that kick it in the balls, and the price is dropped significantly.

I don't even know what it is now, or if it's even available, but I wouldn't mind getting another one in SLI now that they're cheaper.

That doesn't change things much:
Chipset:

Still a solid card though.

Ty, I have found them anywhere from 82 to 200 bucks online. That's a weird price variance. I would get one soon though since they are discontinued if you plan on running that. Your board is SLI compatible right?

Dude, it is a huge performance increase to do it. It puts our cards closer to a GTX 260 with the 216 stream processors. Of course, the shader clock and ROP/texturing cores are smaller, but on my rig with XP, I run Crysis at 40-60 FPS on everything high. Have you also installed the latest CUDA/PhysX drivers?
